Over the past couple of years I have recognized that I am an HSP and this knowledge has brought me a new level of self-acceptance, peace and choice in my life. Some of the most profound healing experiences I've had have been when meeting with other HSPs and sharing our stories. Even though it is sometimes a stretch for me to participate in a group, it has been well worth it. When in the presence of other HSPs I can often feel my nervous system relax as I realize I have been judging myself for ways that I am different that the mostly non-HSP world.
I believe the tools and consciousness of NVC to be a great fit for HSPs*. As I am bringing these two areas together in my own NVC-based coaching work, I have been looking for ways to create community and support for HSPs using NVC-based formats. The creation of this monthly group comes from my vision of a community of HSPs learning and supporting each other using NVC to find deeper levels of self-acceptance, resilience and capacity to engage with and contribute our gifts to the world. If this sounds appealing to you, I hope you will join us!

What participants are saying about the HSP Sharing Circles:
It is a very powerful experience to spend time speaking with and listening to other HSPs. I especially appreciated the structure and format which allowed each person an opportunity to speak and be heard. Hearing my own daily life experience being echoed in voice after voice is particularly affirming. I felt that I was with “my people”. - SP, Metro Chicago, IL
What an ideal opportunity to meet with like-minded folks! With a tendency to stick to myself sometimes, I really enjoyed this ultra convenient venue to engage with others. The guided meditation allows me to shed the outside, and connect to what matters. The topics were spot on and helpful, the shares were “oh…wow, that’s good to know” moments – really enlightening. I look forward to the next meeting. See you there. :-) - EMC, Chicago, IL
"I'm so glad I joined this circle as it has (in just one session) given me a greater understanding of myself and my experience of life. I'm feeling relieved, hopeful and deeply grateful for you for offering this Carolyn : ) " - Chez, Melbourne, Australia
"Carolyn creates a warm, safe and supportive atmosphere for both self discovery and nurturing community." Laurel O., Evanston, IL
Frequently asked questions about the Sharing Circle call:
How can I get help with registration, waiting list or technical stuff?
Go to my technical support page.
What do you mean by "group video call"?
The calls will be held via Zoom group video chat so everyone can see everyone else. This is my way of creating a sense of community and connection within the group. After you register for the call you will receive an email with the Zoom link. The first time you use Zoom, you will need to download the app. Once the app is downloaded you simply click the link to join the call.
I don't like to use video. I am uncomfortable being seen on camera. Can I still attend the call by phone?
It is important to me that all attendees use video so we can see each other's faces and connect more deeply than is possible with audio. I understand that some people don't have the technical means to attend via video or are uncomfortable being on camera. I am considering creating and audio-only offering in the future so more folks can be included.
Do I need to be a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) to attend the call?
My request is that everyone on the call has taken the Highly Sensitive Test and identifies themselves as an HSP. It's ok if you do not have much knowledge about the trait as long as you identify with it via the test. In a world were 80% of the population are not HSPs, it is a rare treat to be in a gathering of HSPs, to sense the similarity in our nervous systems, to relax knowing you belong to the group. I expect there will be a variety of HSP knowledge within the group.
Do I need Nonviolent Communication (NVC) experience or training to be on the call?
No. One of my missions (and pleasures) is introducing NVC to HSPs. While my intention is that some people will have NVC experience and can help co-create the environment of NVC consciousness with me, I expect there will be a wide variety of NVC experience and skill within the group.

More About Me:
I have been studying and practicing NVC since 2007. My primary training was through a program developed by John Kinyon and Ike Lasater called Mediate Your Life - for 3 years as a participant and coach and for 1 year as a co-facilitator for the yearlong program.** In addition to offering communications training, I provide communications coaching for individuals and couples. I focus on practical, structured and experiential learning, providing concepts as a way to support the practice. At the same time, I highly value depth of connection and understanding as a path to healing and growth, thus I strive to provide an environment of acceptance and compassion for my clients and students. Before transitioning to coaching I worked for over 20 years as an engineer and program manager in manufacturing and product development.
A couple years ago I came across Elaine Aron’s work and realized I am an HSP. Since then I have been discovering more about myself, learning and sharing with other HSPs and interviewing HSPs to understand our challenges and gifts. What I see as an essential dilemma of HSPs has emerged: a tendency to feel overwhelmed by the stimulation of people and the world and at the same time, the deep care and need for connection to others and to the world. As I have been aware of and working with my sensitivity I am very much interested in how we can increase our resilience and capacity to be out in the world while honoring our sensitivity and caring for ourselves. I am learning and practicing with this dilemma in my own life and enjoy supporting others on similar journeys - through my groups, workshops and individual coaching sessions. I have found that NVC consciousness and tools provide a practical and learnable way to increase capacity and resilience as well as to deepen connection in a way that is authentic, caring and empowering.
** Additional NVC teachers that have greatly impacted my life and my work: Miki Kashtan, Sarah Peyton, LaShelle Lowe-Charde, Robert Gonzales
